THE OTHER HALF
[LA OTRA MITAD]

As Animals

We have that magic gift to feel that we exist.

For us, Animals, life can be beautiful.

Is there going to be a Feast for us soon ?

The garlands are ready, so are knives, cages, cudgels and gifts. We will soon feel- stronger than usual- the happiness of being together. Soon, blows will fall like the rain- stronger than usual. Then, "peace on Earth," "good will" and "Good Wishes" will float peacefully on a sea of blood- larger than usual.

Many animals will go to the great feast: the living will surround the table and the dead will lie on it. For, as we usually say, the world is made of two parts: one was born to reign and the other to perish.

Who will enjoy the Merry Christmas ?

There will be Christmas Trees, nice Christmas Fathersand cribs with an ox and a child. The ox will smell neither the Christmas Trees nor the straw. He will have that harsh breath of the animal who collapses; life will escape through his sliced throat. So Christmas Fathers can share his remains with children.

Who will enjoy the New Year ?

It will soon be the New Year's Eve, the night of jovial fellows with cemetery bellies.

. Piglets whose tail and teeth are cut, calves kneeled down on the very last journey; you, all the mutilated, the imprisoned, the suffocated, the force- fed, the electrocuted, the disemboweled - is it worth struggleling? The jovial fellows' voices already cover your screams. They talk about rural regions and tablecloths with small squares, enjoying the great callous hands ( that hold the tongs and the nets) and the huge talent of arousing the taste buds while cooking dead people. If you don't speak their way, you don't know how to have fun. To be part of the familly, you have to organise...

Los patos y las palomas
[Les canards et les pigeons]
y los cerdos y los corderos
[et les porcs et les agneaux]
ponen sus gotas de sangre
[mettent leurs gouttes de sang]
debajo de las multiplicaciones;

...the communion in the blood shed !

Christmas or New Year's without turkeys, without foie gras, without salmon, without lobsters, without oysters, without game, without duck mousse, without crayfishes, without white pudding, without caviar… The most important would be missing! It is unusual to invite people without serving meat. They are our guests, we have to honour them, we have to prove to them our regards, we have to be friendly !

Gloomy communion in the name of a sacrifice. Notice how much I honour you, I have sacrified victims without counting. You are my equal, like me, you are worthy to reap the lives of those coming from the other half.

In this time of generosity, even the poorest of the chosen won't be forgotten. During the charity feasts, they will also get their piece of foie gras. Then, they will be sent back, freezing, in the streets.

Where do I go ?

I who have no feathers, no fur, no scales, because of my face, I am part of the Lords of blood. As I wanted to please them, to be one of them I have pretended I believed in the legend of the two halves. I knew as they did, how to enjoy the taste of murder and how to laugh at the delicious corpses. But that is paying too high a price for being one of them.

I would like them to still love me and I would like to still love them, but I see- too clearly- they walk over those of the other half with cold blood, and those are also part of me. I'll never be on the torturers' half again. If there are only two halves on the day of the great feast, I'll choose the other.

Open my rip as I am still alive like you open sturgeons' rips as they are still alive. Blow up my liver like you blow up ducks' livers. Tear off my testicles like you tear off capons' testicles. Tear me apart like you tear frogs appart. Boil me like you boil lobsters. May your smiling teeth put into pieces my flesh like they put into pieces the flesh of the turkeys, of the calves, of the roe deers and of the salmon.

Do we really have to choose between worst and worst? We have two choices: Joining the torture victims who will be dying all alone or joining murderers with their giggling faces which already lick their lips ?

   No, no, no, no !

Y lo he olvidado siempre màs.

I firmly denounce !

I firmly denounce the mediocre and cowardly process of scorning others to feel better about one's own importance. I firmly denounce the community built on exclusion. We can have relations with others without taking part of the same crime. Let's forget the odious myth of the two halves world; that dark machine that creates unhappiness

I want nice Christmas Fathers, Peace on Earth and Fraternity. I want it all for real. May animals' warmth open out, but also the joy of existance for the players piglets, ducks in love and talkative humans.

For all of us, Animals, life can be more beautiful. Let's begin, at last, the real feast ,

the Feast without Sacrificess !
